Radio Segments (explaining the process)

We go through a rigorous process to make sure you get professional-grade audio ready for radio broadcast. This is a team effort. Below, is a step-by-step explanation of the process. Keep in mind that the only thing we require from you is a consistently clean source recording. We can assist you in achieving this.

Orientation
  1. Initial Consultation - We will meet with you to discuss your objectives. We will also examine your current audio system and your process for live recording. At this time, we may make recommendations regarding the equipment used or the process. The purpose of this phase is to make sure that we will be able to meet your objectives and that we will be receiving a clean recording for further processing. Some of the logistic questions we will ask are listed below.
    • What is your current audio process? (responsible person, equipment, media, etc...)
    • Who is your contact at the radio station?
    • Do they require a particular format?
    • Do you want copies of the edited audio?
    • Do you have a specific logo or format you want printed on the labels?
    • Do you want Zavion to archive all your audio?
    • Would you like us to create scripts for the intro and outro?
    • Do you want music for the intro and/or outro?
    • How do you want media delivered? (CD-ROM, Internet, etc ...)
  2. Plan Creation - The information collected from our consultation is then reviewed and an internal plan for production is created to ensure consistency and quality.
  3. Proposal Approval - At this point we will submit the final proposal for your approval.
  4. Create Basic Intro/Outro - After the proposal is approved, we then create the intro/outro. Of course, this is tailored to fit the particular style of each ministry. We have all the creative necessities such as script writing, music composition and voice overs.
Recurring Cycle (usually on a weekly basis)
  1. Media Receipt - We can receive your weekly sermon or presentation in a variety of formats. We prefer digital such as MP3 or WAV. However, we can use high-quality tape such as Type II cassette or other digital formats such as Minidisc. You can deliver your audio via the Internet, postal mail, or any carrier of your choice.
  2. Media Input - After receiving your source media, we then transfer it to our digital editing system.
  3. Signal Processing - At this point, we then process the signal. This includes compressing, expanding, and EQ adjustments. This is to ensure that the audio itself is not a distraction to the listener. Levels are evened out so that nothing pops out at the listener.
  4. Dead-space Removal - We then check for any silence that is longer than 2 seconds and shorten that space.
  5. Content Editing - After removing any dead-space, we then focus on the individual client's instructions for content editing. This may include instructions such as removing any personal references, coughing, or stutters.
  6. Intro/Outro Production - We then edit the base intro/outro for the particular segment we are working on. For example, we will add scripture references or the audio library number.
  7. Segment Slicing - When content editing is complete, we then define where the message will be divided. Most sermons are 1 hour long. This is divided into three segments. We focus carefully on where these breaks are placed - making sure that the listener will have some topic overlap.
  8. Segment Production - We then combine the segment with the intro and outro - making sure the entire clip is exactly the specified time. We insert crossfades as needed. We also perform any final editing.
  9. Media Creation - It's time to make the donuts :) Your media can be delivered in several formats including MP3, WAV and CDA.
  10. Archiving - At this point, if a client has special arrangements, we can archive the audio segments.
  11. Label Creation - Per your specification.
  12. Media Delivery - Internet, Postal or FedEx. We will deliver your media wherever you like.
