  Setting up Your Email in Outlook Express

Abstract: This document shows how to setup Outlook Express to receive email from Zavion.

Concept: Setting up to retreive email is simple and usually takes about 5 minutes your first time. You basically need to enter 5 essential pieces of information as listed below.

  1. Account Name (i.e. 3125)
  2. Password (whatever you provided Zavion)
  3. Email Address (i.e joe@mydomain.com)
  4. POP3 Server (or Mail Server)
  5. SMTP Server (i.e. smtp.att.net)

1 through 4 are provided to you by Zavion. Number 5 (SMTP Server) is provided by your ISP.
NOTE: If you don't have the SMTP information, you should call your ISP and ask ...
"What is the name of your SMTP server?". This server is used to send your email out to the Internet.

Instructions:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Select Tools > Accounts
  3. Select Add > Mail ...
  4. Enter your name (i.e. Joe Ferrari) and click Next
  5. Enter your email address and click Next
    NOTE: This is the address other people will use when sending you email
  6. You will now see the E-Mail Servers dialog window as shown below.

    Enter the information as follows and then click Next:
    1. POP3 - Your incoming mail server is a "POP3" server.
    2. POP3 Server name - Provided by Zavion
      NOTE: This is provided by Zavion after you have signed up for service. This is the server where your email is stored until it is retreived by Outlook Express.
    3. SMTP Name - Provided by your ISP.
      NOTE: If you don't have this information, you should call them and ask ... "What is the name of your SMTP server?". This server is used to send your email out to the Internet.
  7. You should now see the Mail Logon dialog window as show below.

    Enter the information as follows and then click Next.
    1. Account Name: Provided by Zavion.
      NOTE: This is usually a four digit number similar to the one shown above.
    2. Password: As you selected when signing up for service with Zavion.
  8. Click Finished
  9. You will now see the Accounts dialog window as shown below.

    NOTE: If this account is your main email account, then you should make it your default account.
    To do this simply:
    1. Click on the account.
    2. Click the "Set as Default" button on the right.

That's it! You are ready to receive mail!

NOTE: If you have just signed up for service at Zavion or have just modified your domain name registration - please allow up to 48 hrs for the changes to propagate throughout the Internet.
